How do you remove a green pepper smell from your coffee maker?

My friend prepared dinner last night. He used the electric stove, and use green peppers. He was at work the coffee machine. . . and then this morning when he went to make coffee, the coffee tasted like green pepper. We tried to run vinegar through the pot, but this does not work?
